Red (Rubellite), Pink, Bi-color Tourmalines

TOURMALINE is the birthstone for the month of October. Tourmaline is one of the most popular gemstones among collectors as well as jewelry lovers. The name comes from the Singhalese word turamali, meaning mixed-colored stonesThere are red and pink tourmalines in many different shades, from a light, delicate pink, a "bubble-gum" pink, a fine hot pink to intense ruby liked red. Some of these are called 'rubellites' from the Latin 'rubellus', which means reddish.

"While most gemstones in good qualities should as a rule be as free of inclusions as possible, they are looked upon with some favour in the case of the rubellite: indeed it is inclusions that render this stone really interesting from the point of view of the connoisseur." ICGA
