Aquamarine

Aquamarine is the birthstone for the month of March. Aquamarine is a variety of the mineral species beryl, and its name comes from Latin for "sea water", alluding to the color. Since early times, aquamarine has been believed to give foresight, courage, happiness and to increase intelligence, make one youthful and to be effective as a treatment for anxiety. Sailors wore aquamarine gemstones to keep them safe and prevent seasickness. In the Middle Ages it was thought that aquamarine would reduce the effect of poisons. People all over the world love aquamarines for its fine blue shades which can complement almost any skin or eye color.
Aquamarines comes in various shades of blue, from pale to greenish-blue, to deep blue. This beautiful gem receives its coloring from trace amounts of iron. The choice of color is largely a matter of taste, however the deeper blue gemstones are more rare. The color tones of aquamarine are subtle and very often only a little difference in color intensity can make a big difference in price.
